Move It! Alphabet Activity Ideas

Here are activity suggestions to explore  the Move It! Alphabet. 


Young children ages 3-4 

  • create the first letter in their name, a parent, caregiver, a pet or a sibling.
  • For a group ask children to pair together, acting out the same letter for others in the group to guess.

Children 4-5 

  • team together to act out a sequence of letters (A,B,C) 
  • or to spell short 3 and 4 letter words (BEE,CAT,DOG,FOX,PIG,RAT).
  • Identify and act out letters that have diagonal lines or curves (A,K,M,N,Q,V,W,X,Y,Z or B,C, G, O,P,Q,R,S,U).
  • Increase an understanding of the body actions used to make letters: sitting vs reclining (O or S,Z), kneeling vs a sit-up position (F,D or M,N,V), standing vs lying on the back and lifting the legs (I,H,T or J,L,V), lying on the tummy vs lying on the back (U or J, L)

Children 5-6

  • Any of the above are fun and engaging. 
  • Identify muscles being strengthened with   the different letters: hips and legs, shoulders and arms, core/tummy, neck, and back, 
  • Act out short spelling words. 
  • Play 'I Spy : Present a letter, everyone act out the letter, express the sound of the letter then identity objects inside or outside that begin with this letter.
